"Sportovní Prohlídka": The Mandatory Medical Check for Kids in Sports Clubs

If your child has just joined a football team, a swimming club, or an ice hockey league in Prague, you have likely been handed a form in Czech and told to get a "stamp" from a doctor.
This is not just a formality. In the Czech Republic, the "Sportovní prohlídka" (Sports Medical Examination) is a legal requirement for any child participating in organized competitions. Without this valid medical certificate, coaches are legally not allowed to let your child play.
At Swiss Medical Services in Prague 1, we turn this administrative requirement into a thorough, stress-free health check for your young athlete—conducted entirely in English.
Why is this Mandatory?
Unlike in many other countries where a simple waiver signed by parents is enough, Czech law (Decree No. 391/2013 Coll.) takes youth sports safety very seriously. The goal is to screen for hidden heart defects or physical issues that could be dangerous during high-intensity physical activity.
There are generally two types of exams you might need:
Entry Examination (Vstupní prohlídka): Required before your child is officially registered with a sports union or club.
Regular Examination (Pravidelná prohlídka): Required every 12 months to keep their registration valid.
What Happens During the Exam?
Many expat parents worry this will be a complex series of tests at a hospital. At our clinic, it is a smooth, non-invasive process. Our English-speaking Pediatrician or GP will perform:
Resting ECG (Electrocardiogram): This is the most critical part. We check the heart's rhythm to rule out silent arrhythmias or structural defects.
Physical Assessment: Checking posture, joints, and spine alignment (crucial for growing kids).
Medical History Review: Discussing any family history of cardiac issues or asthma.
Vision & Basic Vitals: Blood pressure, height, and weight monitoring.
Note: For most standard youth sports (football, floorball, tennis, swimming), a "Performance Athlete" (Výkonnostní sportovec) check is sufficient. We provide the official stamp immediately after the exam.

Why Choose Swiss Medical Services?
You could wait weeks for an appointment at a public center, but we offer a better experience for international families:
: We explain the results to you and your child in English, so you actually understand their health status.
Speed: We often have appointments available within the same week—sometimes even the same day.
Official Validity: Our stamps are recognized by all major Czech sports associations (FAČR, ČSLH, etc.).
Central Location: We are located right in the center (Vodičkova 1935/38), making it easy to drop in after school.
What to Bring With You
To make your visit even faster, please bring:
The request form from your sports club (if they provided one).
Your child’s vaccination record (optional but helpful).
Comfortable clothes for your child (for the physical exam).
Don't let a missing piece of paper keep your child on the bench. Get them cleared to play safely.
