The "Posudek" Panic: Medical Clearances for Czech School Trips & Camps

It is a scenario every parent in Prague knows well. Your child comes home from school with a crumpled paper at the bottom of their backpack. It is a registration form for the upcoming "Škola v přírodě" (School in Nature) or ski trip. Among the list of socks and snacks to pack, there is a bolded requirement: "Posudek o zdravotní způsobilosti."
For expat parents, this often leads to a panic. Is this a prescription? A vaccination record? Do I need to see a doctor tomorrow?
Here is everything you need to know about this essential document to avoid the last-minute scramble.
What is the "Posudek"?
The Posudek o zdravotní způsobilosti dítěte (Medical Certificate of Health Eligibility) is a mandatory document required by Czech law for any organized recovery event for children (like summer camps, ski courses, or outdoor schools) that lasts longer than 5 days and involves more than 30 children.
It is not just a formality. It confirms that your child is physically capable of participating, lists any allergies or medications, and verifies their vaccination status.
The Good News: It Lasts for Two Years
Here is the secret that many schools forget to tell you: You do not need a new form for every trip.
Under Czech law (specifically Act No. 258/2000 Coll.), this medical assessment is valid for 24 months (2 years) from the date of issue, provided your child’s health status hasn't significantly changed.
Pro Tip: Never give the original document to the school or camp organizer unless they swear to return it. Always provide a copy and keep the original safe at home. You can reuse that same piece of paper for the summer camp in July, the ski trip next January, and the school retreat the following spring.
Don't Confuse it with "Bezinfekčnost"
There is a second form you will be asked for: the Prohlášení o bezinfekčnosti (Declaration of Infection-Free Status).
The Posudek: Must be signed by a doctor (pediatrician).
The Bezinfekčnost: Is signed by you (the parent).
The "Bezinfekčnost" is a simple declaration stating that your child has no symptoms of acute illness (fever, diarrhea) and hasn't been in contact with infectious diseases in the last 14 days. You sign this on the day of departure (or one day before); a doctor does not need to see it.
Does Insurance Cover It?
Generally, no. The issuance of this certificate is an administrative act not covered by public health insurance (VZP, OZP, etc.). Whether you visit a public clinic or a private one, you will usually pay a fee for the stamp. At Swiss Medical Services, we handle these requests quickly, often during a standard check-up to save you a separate trip.
Get Ready for "Camp Season" Now
While the snow is still on the ground, summer camp registrations are opening. If your child’s last check-up was over two years ago, or if you have never had a Czech Posudek issued, now is the time to book.
Don't wait until the night before the bus leaves.
